A Water Slide event that was to turn the Edison Bridge in Ft Myers into a giant water slide will take place in Lehigh Acres instead.
The website for the Sept. 17 Slide the City event says “last minute unforeseen circumstances” forced a move to Veterans Community Park, in Lehigh Acres. The specific reason for the change of venue isn’t immediately clear.
Original plans called for a 1000-foot waterslide. Now 5 200-foot slides at Veterans Park.
The Slide in the City Ft Myers operator is a franchisee of Sack Lunch Productions of Utah. What we found out according to the City of Ft Myers organizers arranged this event without the proper permits obtained from the city.
And now this is the response we just got for the spokesperson from Lee County, Betsy Clayton, “No special event permit application has been submitted to the county. Organizers have reached out to the county. Discussions have been had. Application is anticipated next week. If approved, site will be Veterans Park.”

Development — During the Aug. 15 Fort Myers city council meeting, about two months after Slide the City began advertising for the event, business owner Spencer Hunn told the council the Florida Department of Transportation denied the event’s permit.
