Body Found In Hendry County Identified As Missing Alberta Harris

Alberta Harris

A body found in a wooded area along the Lee-Hendry county line last week has been identified as Alberta Harris, Fort Myers police said.

A group of teenagers found Harris’ decomposed body off Wheeler Road and 14th Place on April 20. Harris’ family members showed up to the area, but were not given any information regarding the body’s identity at the time.

Her death is being investigated as a homicide, the state Department of Law Enforcement said.

Harris, 50, was last seen on April 9. Family and friends became concerned after she didn’t show up for a family gathering. Her 2005 silver GMC Yukon was found two days later with its windows broken in a flea market parking lot on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

One of Harris’ daughters, Ebony, said blood was found inside her vehicle.
