A 53-year-old Tampa woman was killed in a crash Sunday morning.
Marlene Mendoza was a passenger in a VW Jetta driven by Minelbys Mendoza, 43, also of Tampa.
Troopers said Minelbys Mendoza was on Sunset Road and didn’t stop at the stop sign at Gunnery Road North. An oncoming car struck the passenger side of the vehicle.
Marlene Mendoza was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
A second passenger MIgdilia Mendoza in the vehicle, as well as Minelbys Mendoza, had minor injuries. Both were wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the other vehicle William Canada, 59, driving a Ford F150 also suffered minor injuries.
Minelbys Mendoza has been cited for failure to stop.
The crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m.
