3 Brush Fires, 2 Days, 1 Home Destroyed

One home was destroyed in a 50 acre brush fire near Nacelle Avenue South and Ravenswood Street East Wednesday.

More than 40 fire units form both North and South strike task forces fought the blaze that was initially called in at Nacelle Avenue and Ravenswood at 3pm.

The fire was deemed fully contained at 6 p.m. and crews have commenced a cleanup process that they said could last hours.

Residents will be allowed back in the area when it’s complete.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said those who cannot get to their homes are being redirected to Veterans Park on Homestead Avenue South.

Areas of Columbus, Sunrise, McArthur and Sentinela boulevards were evacuated.

At approximately 6:15 pm less than 20 miles away another fire burned at Wallace Avenue Southwest near Meadow Road and 30th Street SW.

Both fires are 100% contained.

Among the personnel on scene were crews from Lehigh, Alva, Bayshore, Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, San Carlos Park, Estero, South Trail, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral and Forestry.

Four dozers, fixed wing airplane and helicopter were used by Forestry.

Two juveniles admitted in starting large fire today in Lehigh Acres.
