LCSO Deputy Involved Incident In Buckingham

Emergency vehicles flooded a Buckingham neighborhood early Wednesday morning, resulting in Lee County sheriff’s deputies blocking off Cemetery Road for several hours.

The incident involved a Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy who’d been on leave, and ultimately drew the presence of a SWAT team and hostage negotiators, as well as a fire truck in front of a nearby Shell gas station. An LCSO statement said the deputy involved went on family medical leave in December and was relieved of duty, pending a fitness for duty evaluation.

“This deputy failed their fitness for duty evaluation on January 15, 2016 and remained relieved of all duties as a law enforcement officer since that time,” the statement said.

Calls to the gas station later Wednesday morning went unanswered.

A resident near Cemetery Road said a SWAT team came to her daughter’s door around 1 a.m. and suggested the daughter leave for her own safety — which she did.
