A 13-year-old Lehigh Acres boy was robbed at gunpoint — for his hover board.
It happened Monday night in the parking lot of a Lehigh Acres shopping center on Gretchen Avenue South near Leonard Boulevard South.
The very popular holiday gift is becoming a target for thieves in Southwest Florida.
Antwoine Thomas’ grandmother and brother said they were shocked to hear he was robbed of his pricey Christmas gift. His grandmother said she feels sick knowing they threatened him with a gun.
On Monday night, Antwoine Thomas and three of his cousins were heading to a store in Lehigh Acres. He took his hoverboard, but it wasn’t long before he was robbed at gunpoint for it at Gunnery Road Plaza.
Antwoine said he was approached by two black males wearing hoodies. One pointed a gun at him while the other pushed him off the board, grabbed it, and ran.
Antwoine’s grandmother has a message for the thieves:
“Pick on someone your own size. Stop picking on little kids, taking they stuff. Go get you a job, work for what you need.”
Witnesses said they say the two hooded robbers got away in a reddish-colored Nissan. The stolen hover board is valued at $400.
