Jamie Wayne on Facebook said everyone please share this picture. Local NBC station did a multi-day story when a deputy parked in a handicapped space and ran into a fast food restaurant to get several orders to go for his co-workers. This picture has been posted on nbc-2.com Facebook page and keeps getting deleted.
After a WBBH news car parked in a handicapped space, a Facebook page supporting Southwest Florida police posted a shot of the illegal parking job prompting a response from the station.
Darrel Lieze Adams, news director for the Fort Myers, Fla., NBC affiliate, responded to the criticism on Facebook, “Thank you everyone for letting us know about this situation. I was notified by the person who took the picture over the weekend and am dealing with the employee appropriately.”
Lieze Adams told TVSpy, “This was an unfortunate isolated bad decision made by a staff member. It was addressed immediately.”
“Darrel’s comment is media hypocrisy at its finest. Had that been a law enforcement vehicle abusing a space reserved for the disabled it would have been a headline story on his newscast,” said Sheriff Mike Scott to the Lehigh Acres Gazette by email.
