East Lee County Student
Charged With Bomb Hoax

An ELCHS student was charged with threatened use of a weapon of mass destruction — or hoax weapon of mass destruction — after a Tuesday morning bomb scare at East Lee County High School.

A Lee County Sheriff’s Office report said Shannon Wise told a teacher he’d found a note outside his band class that read, “There’s a bomb leave before 10:30 good luck!” He later cooperated with LCSO personnel after being told the note would undergo calligraphy comparison.

Tuesday’s incident was the latest in a recent series of school bomb scares in Lee County.

East Lee County was also evacuated on Oct. 12 after a written message suggesting a bomb on the premises was found in a boy’s bathroom.
