Coming Oct 5 Lehigh Acres will have automated trash collection after commissioners approved a new contract with Progressive Waste Solutions for fully automated trucks and bigger bins.
All the new 95 gallon bins have wheels, lids and arrows to show residents which way to face the bin on the curb for a quick easy pickup.
Some people think it will be easier, but others don’t like the change and say that a 95-gallon bin is just too big.
For people concerned about bin size, they can be exchanged later for a 65-gallon bin or a 35-gallon bin. All will work with the new automated trucks.
Progressive Waste Solutions will start servicing the area in October. Delivery of the bins to homes will begin next week. They cannot be used until Oct. 5.
