Lehigh Acres Fire Charges Low Income Seniors with Fire Assessment…….
Presbyterian Homes known as Sunshine Villas has received over a $111,000 dollar notice from the Lehigh Acres Fire department for the Fire Assessment Fee.
If the development passes the cost of the fire assessment to it’s senior low income rentals — it will cost unit nearly $50.00 a month more.
Sunshine Villas is a wholly exempt property tax under the Florida statue but the Fire Board has told to bill them anyway by their consultants.
But in the fire board resolution dated March 24, 2015 it states, “No Fire Protection Assessments and Emergency Rescue Assessment shall be imposed upon Building located upon parcels of Institutional Property Whose Building use is wholly exempt from ad valorem taxation….”
So way is Presbyterian Homes known as Sunshine Villas getting bill for????
im sorry for the organization but i really dont think they are here to not make some money..so if this is true they should share our fire protection…also what chief john wayne has been doing since he was promoted to chief which he accepted, myself i would not have taken the b/s from previous chief…from what i have seen since he has taken by going to meetings monthly he has gone way over i would have expected…but yet we have a couple on the board who keep saying the seniors cant afford this, well my rent went up $25 month due to the assesment fee…so im sorry to say yes it hurst and i live about 8 to 9 miles from the sunshine fire dept if i need them and im guessing about a good 10 to get here is that worth the $25 more per month for the landlords house or my life…im 71 so please stop trying to scare people…there are not that many old people here so commmissioners (2 ) get your stuff to gether and help the average or 30ish people who live here.
