6-Month-Old’s Death at a Local Daycare Under Investigation

It has been confirmed that a six-month-old infant stopped breathing and died this morning at Grace Community School and deputies are at the school located at 3732 Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

The lawyer for the daycare, Mike Beal, told us the child woke up, nursed and slept on the way to school on Friday. The child woke up again around 9 am, nursed, was fussy, laid down, stopped breathing and medical assistance was called, according to the attorney.

Department of Children and Families tells us the facility is Religious Exempt which means DCF does not provide daycare licensing oversight for the facility.  This does not mean DCF will not investigate the death – licensing and investigations are two separate entities under the DCF umbrella.

DCF tells Lehigh Acres Gazette they are aware of the situation and they are in contact with law enforcement.  If DCF receives a report regarding the child’s death they will then perform a thorough investigation.

Deputies have been on scene for at two hours.

We called the daycare’s media contact who told us they will be sending a statement from their lawyer about an incident that took place.
