Random Thoughts Looking
out the Picture Window

Written by Andy Coy

I have some random thoughts and questions as I look out the picture window pondering our county, culture, and country.  Some deep, some not.  Some fun, some worrisome.  Some temporal, some for an eternity.

*  Does anyone but me think the way the University of Kentucky, Coach Calipari, and their basketball program does the “one and done” system in college, is bad for both college and also professional basketball?  The NFL might have it right when they do not allow college students to play professional football until after their sophomore year.

*  I hope that the leadership at Florida SouthWestern  (EdisonCollege) comes up with a way to recognize Coach Hugh Thimilar in their new gymnasium.  Coach Thimilar is the Wooden and Krzyzewski of college basketball in southwestFloridaand it would be great if this icon could be recognized in some way at the new gym facility.  It would connect the past to the present at Florida SouthWestern State College.  Alums would love it.

   *  When is it that state law and state guidelines trumps a state constitutional amendment?  Well apparently when it comes to the Classroom Size Amendment.  Citizens ofFloridahave voted twice for hard and fast limits to the number of students  in individual classrooms.  Was it an unholy alliance between the political Right and the political Left in Tallahassee that has left many classrooms in the State of Florida over the hard and certain caps of students in a classroom; violating the twice approved state CSA?

*  Is it just me, or does President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Eric Holder remind us more and more of President Nixon, John Mitchell, and G. Gordon Liddy?  The only question is if there is a “John Dean” someplace within the Democratic White House with enough courage to step forward and tell the truth under oath  in front of Congress.

*  Is President Obama anti-Bibi Netanyahu, anti-Israel, or  anti-Semitic?  Does he not need to be at least one of these three in order to chooseIranand the ayatollahs overIsraeland the Jewish homeland?

*  Any comparison between President Obama and Neville Chamberlain is an insult to Chamberlain.  When Chamberlain was appeasing Hitler in Europe, there was noIsrael, no Jewish state, and no homeland to go to.  At the time of Obama’s capitulation to Ayatollah Khamenei, there is anIsraeland there is a Jewish homeland.  AndIranhas said thatIsraelhas no right to exist.

*  Why in the world would American citizens, usually from the Left, expect Israel to sit by quietly with their hands folded while the Obama administration concocts a deal with a county (Iran) to have nuclear weapons and this country (Iran) has said Israel has no right to exist. WhenIsraeland Prime Minister Netanyahu says “Never Again”, they means it.  Would we allowCubato have nuclear weapons pointed straight at us?

*  Why is it that conservatives have no problem giving Franklin Roosevelt credit forAmericawinning World War II, but liberals cannot give credit to Ronald Reagan forAmericawinning the Cold War?  PS: Both FDR and RR were out of the White House when both of their respective wars were over.  Whose being mean spirited?

*  There is no better place for cake, this side of Heaven, than the Bubble Room onCaptivaIsland.  The Bubble Room started the year after my senior year of high school in 1979 and is still going strong.  Many Hoosiers, Buckeyes, and Germans will agree.

*  The older I get, the more I miss my Dad.  The closer to Easter, the more I miss my Dad.  The closer to Fathers Day, the more I miss my Dad.  I miss my Dad.

*  There is not many things better on earth, than playing “pitch and catch” with your grandson.

*  Is President Obama purposely and deliberately ushering inAmerica’s decline off of the world stage as a forgotten empire and superpower?  If a serious reader were to study the writings of Sir Alexander Fraser Tytler’s  “9 Stages of a Civilization” and compare it to the President’s actions the last 2 years since his reelection, the conclusions drawn would be very frightening and consequential toAmerica’s survival.

*  Why in the world do we allow our children to use the term “wife beaters” when referring to a white t-shirt?  This “wb” slang is one of the ugliest terms  in American culture.  It is hard to believe that Republican/Democrat, Capitalist/Socialist/Communist,  and Liberal/Conservative cannot agree that this slang term for a t-shirt will no longer be allowed.  Think of what those two words actually mean.  Is it possible, maybe, we can get some public service announcements from both the NFL and NBA condemning the “wb” ugly slang for a t-shirt?  We need to change the culture here.

*  President Nixon only talked about using the IRS against political enemies while the Obama Administration has actually used the IRS against political enemies (example: Tea Party)  to lessen and discourage the voter turnout of political enemies.  Nixon erased 18 minutes of tape while Hilary bleached out the entire computer server.  Still, there is no talk of impeachment?  Hypocrisy?

*  What is the problem with trying to protect the human species fetus just as much as we are protecting the endangered species fetus?  Whose being extreme?

*  I like watching birds in the birdbath in the front yard.  I wonder if the birdbath brings my grandsons or the birds more joy?

* Lincolnonce said that whatever is taught as “truth” in the classroom in one generation, becomes law in the next generation.  What are we teaching today in the classroom as “truth” which will become the law tomorrow?

These are just some thoughts and ideas but also more questions and queries as I look out the picture window today.
