(FL -19)
Congressman Curt Clawson (FL -19) nominated twenty students from Southwest Florida’s 19th Congressional District to attend the United States Service Academies for the 2015 freshman class.
U.S. Service Academies include: The United States Air Force Academy – Colorado Springs, Colorado; The United States Military Academy – West Point, New York; The United States Naval Academy – Annapolis, Maryland; and The United States Merchant Marine Academy – Kings Point, New York.
Clawson stated:
“As the first class of nominees I have had the pleasure of reviewing, I am honored that these fine students would not only prepare themselves for the challenges that lie ahead of them if they are accepted, but that they would also give themselves to serve our nation and defend our freedom. The academies will be tough and demanding, and my Academy Nominations Advisory Committee feels strongly that all of our nominees are up to the challenge. I join the Committee with pride to assist our nominees during the next phase of the admissions process.
“I am also humbled by the members of the Academy Nominations Advisory Committee, led by General James Dozier, for donating their time and years of experience in service to their community by helping me create a process to put the best Southwest Florida has to offer before the consideration of our nation’s Service Academies.”

Congressman Clawson utilizes an Academy Nominations Advisory Committee composed of accomplished community leaders, educators, and retired military officers to screen and personally interview prospective students seeking a nomination to one of the nation’s four Service Academies. This process is designed to assure an objective process by which each candidate is assessed for their overall attributes relating to future success at the Service Academies, while serving our country.
The Committee members volunteer their time for the interviews, with many of them having served for numerous years. Major General (Retired) James Dozier serves as the Chairman of the Academy Nominations Advisory Committee.
