Lehigh Acres Woman
Arrested For Arson

Shirlene Williams

A woman who started a fire in a closet in August has been arrested and charged with arson.

Shirlene Williams, 64, of Lehigh Acres was arrested and charged with first-degree arson, with a person present in the building.

The arrest stems from an August 26 incident. Firefighters responded to an apartment at 4734 21st SW to a structure fire, according to a state fire marshal report. Williams’ husband, Thaddius, called the fire department after putting out the fire himself. It was started in a bedroom closet around 2:47 a.m., according to the report, and Thaddius awoke to the smell of smoke, eventually extinguishing the fire.

A spent match was found and investigators believe Shirlene “willfully and unlawfully” ignited papers and clothing in the closet to start the fire. She was arrested Thursday at 11:15 a.m. and transferred to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office jail and currently she is out on bond.
