Bicyclist riding down Cherokee Ave fell off his bike somehow not wearing a helmet and struck his head on the asphalt. Lehigh Acres Fire was called and the ladder truck arrived within 3 minutes from station 102. The four fire fighters stabilized the man and the ambulance arrived 3 minutes after the ladder truck. The patient was transported to the hospital.

Hmmm. It’s funny that when I was reading other articles that were written about the LAFD someone named Kyle and I quote: “They still have a very very poor response time for anything if it fire or emergency!!” If I read this article correctly it said that the first arriving FF on scene were there in 3 min. and the ambulance was there within 6 min. I can’t see where there is anything bad about response time. I also looked into this and found out that the district responds to over 10,000 calls a year and that is more than any other depts. in the county.
Correct me if I’m wrong but Lehigh is over 140+ square miles.
I believe that a lot of people think that all Fire Fighters are over paid and the FD’s are over staffed. I find this to be nothing more than the ones who have never needed the services of the FD but I can assure you that once an emergency happens to them and these guy’s/gal’s come to help you or someone you know in a time of crisis they will sing a different tune. I say cut the pay of our county commissioner’s “vote Frank Mann out” and control other wasteful spending that the county approves “Red Sox Stadium” etc… but not for the ones that will respond at anytime of the day or night to what ever your emergency is and put their lives on the line if need be. Less than $299.00/year is a small price to pay for the peace of mind knowing that if you have an emergence that there will be enough man power to respond to your emergency. Also check your insurance ISO rating because if they do close down two stations you may end up paying more to a company that doesn’t care about you or your emergency.
