New Roundabout Construction
Has Started on Beth Stacey

Beth Stacey and Business Way: Lee County is constructing a roundabout at Beth Stacey and Business Way in Lehigh Acres. There will be periodic lane closures during off peak times and flaggers will be present to control traffic through the work area. During some construction operations, detours will be posted to direct traffic around the intersection. Expected completion is November, 2014.

During the first phase of construction, Business Way will be closed at Beth Stacey Boulevard.

The traffic detour will be as follows: Detour from Beth Stacey north to Homestead Road, then east (right) to Plaza Drive, and then from Business Way to Plaza Drive, then west (left) to Homestead Road.

Access to businesses on Business Way will be maintained. Additional signs will be posted to direct voters to the polling place for the election on Tuesday, June 24.

Lee County Department of Transportation anticipates the first phase of construction will take 30 days.  The intersection will be reopened as soon as the roadway is reconstructed to allow safe turning movements to and from Business Way.

DOT asks that drivers proceed with caution and be aware of workers and equipment on the roadway.

  1. I WILL SHARE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WITH YOU TO SHOW THAT COUNTY SEEMS TO WORKING ON THE PROBLEM. OUR CONCERNS WERE THAT PROJ WAS NOT ANNOUNCED IAW STATE STATUTES AND THAT IT CREATED A POSSIBLE THREAT OF RESTRICTIONS TO (2) POLLING AREAS 51 AND 52 WHICH WOULD BE FURTHER VIOLATIONS OF LAWS

We put the projects in roadwatch when at the start of construction so don’t list start date.

We have the start of construction posted in road watch. The project was not accelerated. Direction was given to staff to proceed with the project by the county commissioners last year; the project was bid and awarded, again at a BOCC meeting earlier this year and notice to proceed was issued to the contractor as of June 9, 2014.

    Importance: High

There appears to be no PUBLIC notification on the Beth Stacey roundabout project. There seems to haste in procedures to and establishment to proceed with this project. When was this ordered and who ordered the acceleration.

Please explain when the project is scheduled to proceed.

  2. Too bad the people were not asked about the round about. The one we already have is nothing but confusion. People pull up and do not yield, they just keep driving. Who needs them? I would like to know who had this idea of a round about. So many other things need to be done in Lehigh. Too bad the county commisiors don’t bring some new business development here. We are asked , what we would like to see in Lehigh and the people respond, “new shopping places, new restaurants, etc” So, what did we get? A new Goodwill Store, a trail head park and a dog park.DUH!!!Will someone please listen to us???
