Lee County Asks Hunters For
Help Reduce The Wild Hog Population

Wild hogs are multiplying faster than trappers can keep up, so Lee County leaders are asking hunters for help in managing the growing population.

County leaders are asking for proposals from professional hunters and trappers to take guns on county-owned 2020 Conservation land and shoot the feral pigs, since trapping the hogs isn’t working.

“They eat ground nesting birds, they disrupt the soil, which allows non-native invasive plants species to root and they’re a really destructive animal,” said Cathy Olson, the Lee County Conservation Lands manager.

The hunters will focus on rural land in eastern Lee County

Olson and other county experts are hosting an informational meeting about this hog hunt July 29 at 5:30 pm at Terry Park in Fort Myers, 3410 Palm Beach Blvd.

  1. I am looking for information and acreage on which to shoot feral hogs. Is there a list of landowners who have a hog problem and would welcome a hunter onto their property? Also, could you direct me to any governmental agency who could provide me information? Thank you. Merle Forde.
