Bullet Tears Through Home

A Lehigh Acres grandmother says she’s scared to death. A bullet whizzed through her home just feet from where her grandkids sleep. The shooting happened on Candlewick Circle South, off Beth Stacey near the Copperhead Golf Club.

“I was just freaking out! I just didn’t know what to do!” said Teresa Mays.

A night playing of playing games with grandkids in the garage turned into a night of terror.
“Boom boom boom, it sounded like it was a clip, not just one shot at a time, it was scary,” Mays said.

Mays called 911 after she heard those gunshots late Saturday night. But it wasn’t until more than an hour later when she realized her house had been hit.

“There was ceramic stuff on the floor, it hit my teacup at the top, busted it, went in the ceiling went in the living room wall, and the bullet bounced back on the floor.”

That bullet landed in the living room: the very same room where her grandchildren, ages 3 and 8 were going to sleep later that night.

“My heart dropped. I was like — it could of been my grandson walking around in the living room. It could of ricocheted to him, he could of got hurt somehow,” Mays said.

Mays doesn’t know who pulled the trigger. But she says she noticed three people running past her house just moments after she heard the shots.

She hopes the gunman is watching, because she has a message. “Shooting the wrong direction towards houses where people have kids? Not a good thing. If they can’t control that gun with themselves, they don’t need it.
