Lehigh Acres Gazette learned Lathan Gareiss walked down Lee Boulevard dressed the part dragging a cross. “This is something that I was just moved to do” said Gareiss.
He then hung from the cross for 3 hours at Lee and Homestead. Gareiss said, “Good Friday is the day that Jesus was crucified and Sunday, Easter Sunday, is the day that he rose from the dead.”
Gareiss said nearly a thousand people came out to show support. “I feel that we accomplished what we wanted.”
But he tells The Lehigh Acres Gazette a small group of people disturbed by what he was re-enacting complained… and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office made him come down.
“Some people thought that I was too graphical and gore, that it was inappropriate for public place, when this is nothing compared to what our savior went through for us” said Gareiss.
Several people offered him to relocate to their property but he felt that wasn’t necessary.
