Would you take a million dollars? Simple answer, right? However, what if there was one condition? The condition would be that someone, somewhere in the world would die the minute you accepted the money. Using this ethical scenario from the movie,The Box, the Jag Journalism class was able to get into the minds of students at East Lee County High School. After surveying the student body most of them said that they would not take the offer. Junior Yeilys Matos said “Money isn’t worth a person’s life.” Sophomore, Mianah Pabon said “That it is unfair”. She also mused “I would wonder if someone else took the offer would you die?” Other reactions centered around materialism. Junior Arnol Escobar stated that he was ” not a materialistic person.” While Freshman Samantha Jordan said she would “go for it.” The survey soundly proved that it really the situation was mitgated by many different circumstances and students overall were split on whether they would take the money or not. Many times we have been told that teenagers are heartless and only care for themselves. However, it seems that maybe teens today are more ethical than otherwise regarded.
