St. Patrick’s Day!

St. Patrick’s Day!

When March 17 rolls around, get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit with a family-friendly party that celebrates the luck o’ the Irish.

Set the scene for the party with green light bulbs or strings of green holiday lights.

Inflate green, white and gold balloons filled with small candies and have guests pop them to get their treats.

Hang streamers in rainbow colors.

Dress your house in shades of the classic St. Patty’s Day hue:

Create simple candleholders by hollowing out green apples and artichokes.

Place shamrocks in small flowerpots.

Order centerpieces with green-and-white plants such as white roses, white tulips or fern fronds from your neighborhood Publix.

Before the party, hide a large black pot filled with chocolate coins wrapped in gold foil. When guests arrive, send them on a treasure hunt to find the pot of gold. Or scatter the wrapped chocolate coins around the house and see who can find the most.

Draw four-leaf clovers and other Irish-inspired designs on children’s cheeks with face paint.

Invite each guest to bring a plain, light-color T-shirt to decorate with fabric paints. This project requires extra time, so do it at the beginning of the party.

1. Insert a piece of cardboard inside each T-shirt so the paint doesn’t bleed through.

2. To make the project easier for younger guests, cut shamrocks and other shapes from sponges. Help them dip each sponge into a bowl of paint and apply it to the shirt.
