On Dec. 25, 2013, musician Steve Barnett completed building his latest harp just in time for Christmas!
Barnett, who resides in Lehigh Acres, Fla. is not only a harp builder and player, but he is also a professional film, TV and voiceover actor.
“Well, I finally completed the construction of the new Paraguayan harp. I was given the required strings as a Christmas gift.”
There are many kinds of harps, and Barnett shares about his latest.
“This most recent harp I’ve built is a Paraguayan ‘styled’ arpa (meaning harp). It is just a bit larger and heavier than a typical Paraguayan harp. Instead of the usual 10-14 pounds, mine weighs in at 20.”
According to Steve Barnett this new harp is not quite ready to play yet, but he has others and has played many harps at several events throughout Southwest Florida.
“The strings are now installed, and the instrument has a full rich voice of both bass and treble. However it will take about a month for the strings and the wood to settle in and stay in tune.
I have other harps, and I play at a variety of events.”
In addition to being a musician and harp builder, Steve Barnett is also a realtor, a character actor, and a member of a film and television organization, UFTA.
Barnett has recently been cast in a UFTA produced film, “Casting.”
