The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed 18 students from Lehigh Middle School were on a school bus when smoke filled the bus at East 6th Street and Columbus Avenue.
The air conditioning unit malfunctioned causing smoke to fill the bus.
Eighteen students from Lehigh Middle School and the bus driver were evacuated. A substitute bus delivered the eighteen students home. The broken bus was driven to the bus depot to be repaired.
