Riverdale High School is proud to announce that senior Chenelle Walker has been named a State Winner for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. Since 1994, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program has honored more than 395,000 of the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors in partnership with the Heisman Memorial Trophy® Committee. Like the Heisman Memorial Trophy Committee, the Wendy’s program believes in the pursuit of athletic and academic excellence with integrity. In addition to honoring student accomplishments, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program inspires all future high school students to pursue their higher education goals. The Award is an honor reserved for students who excel in academics, athletics and leadership.
Chenelle currently holds a GPA of 5.08 at Riverdale and is a member of the top 1% of all seniors in Lee County academically. As a student-athlete, she is a four year varsity member of the volleyball, basketball and track teams. Chenelle truly shines in the sport of volleyball – she is a two year All-Conference member for both the Lee County Athletic Conference and the Florida Coaches Association.
On Wednesday, November 13th, Chenelle will sign a Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of Iowa, a member school of the Big Ten Athletic Conference.
As a leader in the Riverdale Raider community, Chenelle is enrolled in the school’s International Baccalaureate (I.B.) program, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Math Team, Interact Club, Chorus and Art Club. As if that weren’t enough, she volunteers in her spare time as the Alzheimer’s Art Therapy Director at the Winkler Court Rehabilitation Center. Of Chenelle’s achievements, Principal Jerry Demming states, “We are so proud to have a young lady like Chenelle Walker to represent the Riverdale Raider community.” As she accepted the news of winning the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award for Florida, Chenelle stated, “I want to thank God for allowing me to have my friends, family and the support I have received at Riverdale High School for fulfilling my dreams.” For more information about the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award please visit http://www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com/.
