Just a few details have come to light about the death of 25-year-old Kyle Byrtus, whose body was found Thursday in a secluded area of Lehigh Acres.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Friday by email the death is being investigated as a homicide.
The body was discovered in the area of Meadow Road and Leah Court by a man, who stopped to investigate after he noticed a large number of buzzards in the area, according to a sheriff’s office report.
The sheriff’s office has not released a cause of death, hasn’t said how long Byrtus’ body was at the location or if he was killed there, but said it was “remains” that were discovered.
Detectives said they believe Byrtus was recently frequenting the Pine Manor area and were hoping someone in the area recognized seeing him recently.
The sheriff’s office said there wasn’t any missing person report filed for Byrtus.
Byrtus was a graduate from Fort Myers High School in 2006. He signed with Florida Atlantic University’s track team after being named all-conference his senior year. He also served as captain of the track and cross country teams.
