A Lehigh Acres doctor wants to build a recreation center for children and some of his patients. But neighbors were fighting back, saying not in my back yard.
Dr. Mickey Jones owner of Optimum Fitness and Rehabilitation, which he opened 6 years ago, wants to expand. Now Jones says he wants to give back to the community that helped him.
Jones wants to build a 12,000 square foot recreation center just across the street on 5th Street West off Lee Boulevard.
Jones plans on a racquetball court, an outdoor track where people can walk, batting cages and swimming pool.
Jones expects to employ at least 10 to 20 people when the center is up and running. There’s no timeline for that though said Jones.
He says now that he has the OK to build by the Lee County Commissioners, he has to find a way to pay for it.
