Glenview Capital Management LLC, which owns 14.7 percent of the common stock of Naples-based Health Management Associates, Inc., (HMA) today filed information with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to nominate eight candidates to replace HMA’s current board of directors.
“It is widely recognized by publishing analysts, financial press and professional investors that there is significant room for improvement at HMA,” Glenview wrote in a statement to investors.
HMA operates 71 hospitals in 15 states, including 23 hospitals in Florida. In Southwest Florida, HMA operates Lehigh Regional Medical Center in Lehigh Acres; Charlotte Regional Medical Center and the Peace River Regional Medical Center in Charlotte County; and two Physicians Regional Hospital campuses in Collier County.
