Will Be Get New Recyclable Bins

Lee County Solid Waste Division is providing residents in Lehigh Acres with a new 64-gallon container with wheels for the collection of recyclable material. The distribution of the new containers in these areas will begin April 1 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-June 2013.

The old recycle bins are the property of Lee County and will be collected by the Lee County Solid Waste Division. Residents are asked to place the old and empty recycling bins at the curb on the scheduled recycling collection day so that they can be collected.

The Lee County Solid Waste Division is in the process of furnishing single-family residences with a post card mailer that will provide more information in the next couple of days.

Approximately 145,000 customers in Lee County have already used these 64-gallon containers since 2010. The new container makes it more convenient to get recyclables to the curb on collection day. It also eliminates the use of multiple bins.

  1. We don’t fill one recycle bin per week now.
What will we do with a 64 gal recycle bin? Not allowed to put it outside house- and no room in garage for it…..come on Commissioners use some common sense. “One shoe doesn’t fit every foot”.
Cape Coral went through this a year or so ago and at least offered smaller containers….even those are not needed in my household.
Will trash be next??? What about yard wastes???
There are better uses for money.

  2. I am very excited for the new bins, as we constantly overfill our two now. I am very happy they decided to upgrade. My only question is, how will we know what week ours will be replaced? I didn’t expect it to take til June, so we are not sure how long to leave the bins out.

  3. This is wonderful news! We fill three bins to overflowing every week, so the larger closed version will be extremely helpful.
