Women’s Basketball Picks Up Two Votes in the AP Top 25

The FGCU women’s basketball team (25-5, 18-0 A-Sun) received two votes to rank tied for No. 37 in this week’s AP Top 25 that was released on Monday, Mar. 4.

This marks the second time this season that the Eagles have garnered a vote in the national poll. The Green and Blue, who rank second in the nation in three-pointers made per game (9.2), received one vote in last week’s poll (Feb. 25).

In their last outing (Mar. 2), the Eagles defeated Kennesaw State, 74-36, on Senior Day to secure a second consecutive perfect A-Sun regular season (18-0). FGCU’s 18-0 conference record solidified the Eagles as the first A-Sun school to go undefeated in league play in back-to-back seasons and is the fourth occurrence in league history that a team has finished the regular season unblemished. The Green and Blue’s 18 A-Sun victories also tied the 2009-10 ETSU and 2011-12 FGCU squads in the Atlantic Sun record books for the most conference wins in a season.

Winners of three consecutive A-Sun Regular Season titles, the No. 1 seeded Eagles return to the court on Wednesday, Mar. 6 when they take on No. 8 seed Kennesaw State (7-23, 3-15 A-Sun) at Mercer’s Hawkins Arena in the first round of the 2013 Atlantic Sun Tournament. Tip-off for the third meeting between the teams is set for 12:00 p.m. ET and the game can be seen live on ESPN3.com. The game can also be heard live online at FGCUAthletics.com with David Moulton on the call.
