A family is now homeless after a fire completely destroyed their home. It happened around 6:25 p.m. off of Capri Street.
There’s nothing left of the house. But if there’s any silver lining here, it’s that the family that lived there is safe and thankful for it.
Investigators say the family and most of their pets – 3 dogs, 2 birds and one cat made it to safety before the fire tore through the house. Two cats remain unaccounted for.
Lehigh Acres Fire officials say the family will be getting help from the Red Cross.
According to Battalion Chief Robert Dilallo, when we arrived there was too much fire to make an offensive attack so we made a defensive attack from the outside. We didn’t put any firefighters in danger, just a lot of water.
Investigators say the cause of the fire is under investigation and the state fire marshal’s office will be leading the investigation.
