A couple planning to use $100,000 to buy a house lost the money Thursday after someone stole the couple’s safe.
Lee County Sheriff deputies responded to a home alarm in the 600 block of Meadow Road and found the home’s side garage door was removed from its hinges, according to a sheriff’s office report.
A safe containing $100,000 worth of gold and silver bars was removed from the residence. The suspect(s) also took $20,000 of jewelry from a jewelry box, along with pain medication, a Xbox, a PlayStation 2 and $60-$70 worth of change in a jar.
I am so sorry to hear of this burglary. Let me tell readers a way to keep people from pulling the hinge pins so the door can simply be lifted off the lock bolts. I drilled my hinge pins from the inside and inserted smaller nails so they don’t come up easily.
Also people should secure their sliders as a primary defense. First to glue blocks above the sliders to prevent burglars from lifting the slider up and out. Second by drilling a hole where a pin can be inserted when you lock up that stops both doors from moving laterally. Next quit leaving things unlocked like your car or the windows that we all open during the fall and spring. Go around and secure your property before you go to bed or leave the house. That may be enough to deter a potential thief from going in.
Burglary is a going business it even supports Lawyers in downtown Fort Myers. Judges are generally easy on burglars, especially if they hire sophisticated Fort Myers Lawyers.
