Poodle skirts, saddle shoes, slicked back hair and pony tails will rule when the residents of Lehigh Acres and the surrounding area are taken on a trip back to the 50s and 60s ‘for the holidays, as the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce presents, in concert, the Legendary Rock and Roll Group, “The Diamond’s.”
The “Silver Bells and Diamond’s” Christmas Show will be held at the Lehigh Acres Senior High School Auditorium, 901 Gunnery Road N, on Saturday,7 p.m. Dec. 8, 2012.
“This is a great show for the whole family,” said Chamber President/CEO Gary Bright. “The program will feature all of the hits from the 50s and 60s with the second half of the show highlighting everyone’s holiday favorites. All ages will enjoy this show and it will make a great gift to kick off the holiday season,” Bright said.
In 1957, “The Diamond’s” released the hit “Lil Darlin’,” which had become a rock ‘n roll classic, selling more than 20 million copies worldwide. Other “Diamond’s” hits include “The Stroll” and “Silhouettes.” In addition to these three gold records, the group made 33 appearance on American Bandstand, was featured on the American Graffiti Soundtrack and have been inducted into both the Rock and Roll and Do-Wop halls of fame.
“The Chamber will also be working with groups and organization at Lehigh Acres Senior High to help raise funds for their school projects,” Bright said. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will go to the Chamber’s Education Program. The Education Committee awards college scholarships to graduating seniors from Lehigh Acres Area high schools and also honors outstanding teachers each May at an awards banquet.
