Big Wooden Nickel or Cookie

Dear Editor,

I pass it everyday and everyday I wonder about the origin, I am talking about the big round “Welcome To Lehigh Acres” sign at the corner of Lee Blvd. and Homestead Rd.. After searching on the Internet with no luck I asked longtime resident Rick Anglickis about the origin. He told me that it was an advertisement sign for the old Lehigh Development Corp. and then moved to its present location. But when I look at the (big wooden nickel or cookie) sign I wonder about the design the background is multi colored as is the population of Lehigh Acres, on the sign is a palm tree and sun that reflects a part of paradise, like we have in Lehigh Acres. But the sign that looks like it would topple over in a wind storm has withstood hurricanes, wind shears just like the population of Lehigh Acres. And around the sun and palm tree is an incomplete frame. We need to complete this frame, get involved, volunteer, educate yourself about your community register to vote and exercise your rights. Let’s work together and complete this frame and make our Lehigh Acres complete. Welcome to Lehigh Acres it is great.
