“Grow a Gardener” program

We are finally at a point that the Lehigh Acres Edible Gardening Exchange is ready to start promoting our “Grow a Gardener” program.

The “Grow a Gardener” workshop runs 8 weeks on Mondays beginning September 10th, 2012.
Here is how Veterans Park is promoting us:

Grow a Gardener workshop is suitable for, but not limited to ages 8-11. Parents must participate with their child. Come be a part of an 8 week growing project. Have fun learning what makes good dirt, what plants need to grow, how seeds become plants, play in worm poop, how to make more plants, which bugs are good and bad and more. You will also taste unusual edibles.
A $10 facility membership fee is required to participate in this program.
Materials for this class are not included and will be purchased through the instructor for $20.

There is a 15 student limit and 5 are currently signed up. The program has been designed to cover all aspects of growing edibles including plant growth, propagation, worm bins, composting, bugs, herbs, and seed saving. The program is free however a $20 per child materials fee is to pay back our volunteers who purchased class materials.

To sign up: go to webtrac.leegov.com, select location of Veterans Rec Center and click search, then scroll down until you see the class.

We would love to have the public involved by suggesting a pre-paid scholarship for the kids. However, we are not yet positive how this might work. There has been verbal interest in donations toward the kids materials.
