Dear Editor,
I first heard Warren Wright speak at a community event in Lehigh Acres and I really liked his ideas. Mr. Wright was able to convey his economic vision for Lee County in a way that was insightful and clear headed. We need to go with what works. What captured my attention were Mr. Wright’s thoughts on comparative advantage and how our local economy would grow better if we focus on what we are naturally good at such as fishing, tourism, and the medical industry. Fishing brings in 600 million dollars to Lee and Charlotte County, while baseball brings in only 45 million. The county needs to do more for the real economic engine of our economy instead of trying to invent something else that is costly. Baseball is fun but does anyone think that is going to make our economy better? We don’t need to spend another dollar on another stadium. We need to focus investments on what we are naturally good at and start creating some more jobs.
